In an effort to make the tryout fair and to provide equal experiences for all athletes we have created a list of critical components we will consider as we make the final JV and Varsity roster selections.
Players will be assessed in the following areas:
Technical?: Mastery of ball control in dribbling and receiving. First touch. Passing accuracy.
Tactical?: Speed of play. Ability to assess the soccer situation and react appropriately and/or creatively.
Physical?: Fitness, strength, speed, quickness.
Psychological?: Attitude, coachability, focus, desire to compete, leadership.
Communication?: Verbal and nonverbal.
Tryouts will consist of a 1.5? mile run on the track, 40 yard dash, 20 yard cone dribble, compass drill, push-ups, sit-ups, juggling, one-on-one soccer, small sided games, and full field games.
Based on the above criteria, we will select a Varsity and JV team with each roster consisting of 18-20 players. The season will last through mid May for JV. Varsity will participate in the District tournament, and if qualified, in the regional tournament the following week. The full schedule for the season is listed on the Marshall athletics website. We do not have a commitment during spring break but may discuss optional practices as the time gets closer. Please see team rules for other expectations.
