
George C. Marshall High School Welcomes New Head Coach of Track and Field
Falls Church, VA – October 17, 2025 – George C. Marshall High School is proud to announce the appointment of its seasoned and highly accomplished coach to lead its Track and Field program. With over 30 years of coaching experience and a decorated career in competitive running, the school welcomes Coach Darrell General as the new Head Coach of Track and Field.
Coach General brings an exceptional record of leadership, professionalism, and dedication to student-athletes. Since 2002, he has served as the school’s Head Coach for Cross Country and Assistant Head Coach for Indoor and Outdoor Track, playing an instrumental role in the program’s success, including leading the Girls Cross Country team to a State Championship in 2016.
A professional marathon runner from 1988 to 2004, Coach General is a two-time Marine Corps Marathon winner and a five-time U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier. His athletic excellence has been recognized with induction into the Marine Corps Marathon Runner’s Hall of Fame in 2004 and multiple national team selections. His victories at prestigious events such as the Army Ten-Miler further underscore his elite background in distance running.
Beyond his accolades, Coach General is known for his strong organizational skills, motivational leadership, and ability to foster both individual and team development. His approach to coaching emphasizes professionalism, independence, and collaboration—qualities that have resonated throughout his career at Marshall and previously at Potomac High School.
